A curiosity is that Maldives is the lowest country in the world, with maximum and average natural ground levels of only 2.4 metres (7 ft 10 in) and 1.5 metres (4 ft 11 in) above sea level, this makes the Maldives to be ranked as the third most endangered nation due to flooding from climate change
The official and common language is Dhivehi, an Indo-Aryan language.
But the Maldives is not only a place to relax, you have many activities you can do in Maldives, like diving, surfing and many watersports to do.
The Maldivian waters are home to several ecosystems, the incredible amount and variety of colourful coral reefs, are home to 1100 species of fish, 5 different species of sea turtles, 21 species of whales and dolphins, 187 species of corals, 400 species of molluscs, and 83 species of echinoderms. But aldo many crustacean species can be found there as well: 120 copepod, 15 amphipod as well as over 145 crab and 48 shrimp species. These incredible ecosystem makes the Maldives a great place to do diving and snorkeling.
How to travel to the Maldives and how to move around.
To move around the islands of Maldives you have several option, the most known are by domestic flights, by seaplane and by boat.
TMA is the seaplane company that is used to move around, and they are also used by some hotels to transfer guests to the hotels. This depends on the distance of the destination island from and to the airport.
The typical Maldivian boat is called dhoni, they are relatively cheap and very convenient to move around. Speedboats and seaplanes tend to be more expensive.
