Stockholm, a city to enjoy and know Nordic culture in all its splendor.

Stockholm is the capital and largest city of Sweden. Located on the Stockholm archipelago, the city is made up of 14 islands where Lake Mälar empties into the Baltic Sea. Founded in 1252 by the Swedish statesman Birger Jarl, Stockholm has been inhabited by humans since the Stone Age, in the sixth millennium BC.

Stockholm is the cultural, media, political and economic center of Sweden. The Stockholm region alone accounts for more than a third of the country's GDP and is among the 10 regions in Europe with the highest GDP per capita. It is considered a global city and the main center of corporate headquarters in the Nordic countries.

In the city is the seat of the Swedish Government and most of its institutions, which are also housed in buildings that are architectural works to visit and admire.

Among them are the Rosenbad Building, which is the seat of the Swedish Government, the Palace of the Swedish Parliament, the residence of the Prime Minister, known as Sager House. The Royal Palace in Stockholm, which is the official residence of the King of Sweden, and also the Drottningholm Palace, which is the private residence of the royal family.

Culture is important for the city

Culture occupies a very important place in Stockholm. And the museums are tourist attractions by themselves. The city has a hundred museums, some of which are free. The most famous are:

Vasa Museum: In it, you can see a 17th-century warship (the Wasa) with a curious history: it sank just after it was built, in 1628, 1,300 meters from the shipyards. The cause is simply that the ship was too unstable to sail. It was rescued in 1961.

Gamla stan: The medieval old quarter, the Stockholm Cathedral Storkyrkan, and the Royal Palace.

Skansen: An open-air museum (literally, "The Bastion") located on the island of Djurgården, near the center of Stockholm. Old buildings from all parts of Sweden are found there, and it reproduces what life was like in cities and towns since the 16th century. There is also a part dedicated to the Lappish people, as well as a small nature park (with different species of Nordic animals, such as moose, bears, etc.) and an aquarium.

Moderna Museet: It is the museum of Modern Art in Stockholm, and one of the main exhibitions of modern art of the 20th century in all of Europe.
